Pete Stewart, the new men’s basketball coach at Minot State University, is going to be a busy guy. Stewart, a Parshall native, was named the head coach Monday. The MSU job drew nearly 120 applicants, and with good reason. It’s a good job, although it’s certainly going to be a challenging one as MSU makes the transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II over the next couple of years. Stewart comes to MSU from Port Angeles, Wash., where he coached a Peninsula College for the past seven years.

Tony Stewart has hired fellow Indiana native Ryan Newman to drive the second car for his new team next season, The Associated Press has learned. Newman, who nipped Stewart on the final lap to win the Daytona 500 in February, will be introduced as driver of the No. 4 Chevrolet on Friday at Michigan International Speedway, according to a person familiar with the deal. The person requested anonymity because details, including car sponsorship, are still being worked out.
