It didn’t take long for the Jamestown Tarno Tigers to throw a wrench in to the Class AAA state amateur tournament. The Tarnos, who had not beaten a 3A team all season, torched Mayville pitcher Brandon Weber for eight runs in the first two innings en route to a 13-8 opening-round win over the Redcaps, who were seeded fourth in the 5-team field. The Tarnos opened as the fifth seed.
Jack Brown Stadium has always been a welcoming venue for amateur baseball teams, which is not the case in every town.
Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants manager Bryan Erstad, who lives in Fargo, says coming back home to play is always enjoyable and fairly stress free.
“It’s a great setup in Jamestown with the access we’re given to the ballpark,” he said. “Fargo ballparks charge an arm and a leg just to use the fields and there’s a lot more competition. So we really appreciate what we have in Jamestown.”
The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants swept a pair of Great Plains Amateur Baseball League games on Sunday at Jack Brown Stadium.
