Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is warning North Dakotans about a nationwide telephone scam disguised as an offer to lower credit card interest rates. The Attorney General’s Office has received complaints this week from people across the state who received a call claiming to be from a company called “Card Services” directing the individual to enter their credit card number to determine if they qualify for a better interest rate.
Old telephone poles are being swiped right out of the ground in central Maine.
According to FairPoint Communications, about 35 poles have been cut and stolen. The thefts in the town of Oakland began last fall and stopped in the early winter but have resumed as snowbanks have retreated.
A monthly North Dakota tax that supports telephone services for the deaf is dropping to its lowest amount ever.
North Dakota’s Public Service Commission has ordered the tax to go down from 4 cents to 3 cents per telephone access line. The decrease takes effect in July.
