Campaign collects 920 shoe boxes
More than 920 shoe boxes filled with toys, school supplies and other items were dropped off at churches and other facilities around Jamestown last week. Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown was a collection site. Last week was National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child, and the gift-filled shoe boxes are now in the process of being shipped to needy children around the world.December 10, 2010
Temple hosting Bible seminar
Temple Baptist Church, 1545 Fourth Ave. N.W., is hosting a “Walk Thru the New Testament” seminar on Oct. 10. Dr. Bill Marty, professor of Bible at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, will lead the seminar. Session one begins during worship (either 8:30 or 10:45 a.m.). People are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. Temple starting AWANA ministry
Temple Baptist Church, 1545 Fourth Ave. N.W., Jamestown, is beginning its AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) year at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, with a kickoff/registration/campfire night. AWANA is a ministry for children, kindergarten through grade six. Children meet in age groups to memorize Bible verses, play games, sing songs, hear Bible stories/object lessons and receive awards. New Hope Free Lutheran Church will hold a worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday at 1545 Fourth Ave. N.W. Jamestown (the Temple Baptist Church facility). A time of fellowship will follow worship. Virginia Beach Buddhist monks seek to keep temple location
A group of Buddhist monks could lose permission to use a $1 million brick ranch home as their temple. In a 6-4 vote last week, Virginia Beach Planning Commissioners recommended that the monks shut down the Buddhist Education Center of America Inc. in rural Virginia Beach.
