FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Two commuter trains packed with rush-hour commuters collided in a crash that sent about 70 people to the hospital, severely damaged the tracks and threatened to snarl travel in the congested Northeast Corridor.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Exploding freight cars full of ethanol made for a dramatic early morning scene in Ohio's capital on Wednesday, but officials said the train derailment that led to a hurried evacuation of an urban neighborhood could have been much worse.
— A BNSF Railway official says a cargo train has derailed on a main rail line running across the Northwest.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said that there are no injuries and no environmental threat from Thursday morning’s derailment near Saco in northeastern Montana.
The University of North Dakota student found dead in March in the Grand Forks rail yard died of blood loss after his right arm got tangled up in a train and torn off, according to a police report and autopsy results.
Blake Christopher Ayling, 20, also had a blood alcohol content of .287, the report said.
