Diane von Furstenberg, herself an inspiration to some, is honoring the women she looks up to, including newscaster Robin Roberts.
Recipients of this year’s DVF Awards were announced Monday. They include Roberts, who gets the lifetime leadership award for the “extraordinary grace and courage” she has shown in her fight against breast cancer and a blood disorder, according to a statement from von Furstenberg’s Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation.
On his first deployment as a American Red Cross volunteer, Dave Smette helped drive an emergency response vehicle 1,700 miles to New Jersey, where he helped serve thousands of meals to people stricken by Superstorm Sandy.
A longtime Red Cross volunteer from Onida who has helped victims of 9/11, Missouri River flooding last year and Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana this year is being mobilized to help in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.
Five local American Red Cross volunteers are in New Jersey helping that area deal with Hurricane Sandy.
The workers represent the Minn-Kota Region of the American Red Cross and are from Fargo, Minot and Dickinson.

People volunteered to fill sandbags, helped others move out of the reach of floodwaters and aided in collecting sandbags. The 2011 Missouri River flood leaned heavily on the good will of the local community, and people rose to the occasion. It’s what we do in times of need.
