WHAT WE THINK
Editorial: Time for Shirvani to resign
Hamid Shirvani’s brief tenure as North Dakota’s chancellor of higher education has been remarkable for its seemingly endless blunders, arrogant management style and needless controversy, all of which have damaged the state’s 11 campuses and their students.By The Jamestown Sun Editorial Board , April 29, 2013
What we think: Essential Air Service pays off at JRA
Just three locations in North Dakota — including Jamestown — receive funding under the federal Essential Air Service (EAS) program, which gives airlines incentive not to drop the lesser traveled routes. It’s a program that Congress should continue.August 26, 2011

What we think: Zvirovski’s work gets a bravo
The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week: * Bravo to John Zvirovski, who was awarded the first Advanced Master Gardener certificate given in North Dakota. Zvirovski, a master gardener, was recognized for his public service, including being involved with numerous garden organizations, writing a gardening column for The Jamestown Sun and donating more than 225 hours to benefit others in areas of gardening.June 25, 2011
What we think: Bravo to record oil production in N.D.
The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week: * Bravo to the news that North Dakota produced 113 million barrels of oil in 2010, which broke the previous year’s record by 33 million barrels. This increased production means a serious boost to the state’s economy and tax collections.By Sun Staff , March 05, 2011
What we think: Training classes turning out well
When the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. Board added a training center as a strategic plan project, little did its members realize how successful the work force training program would turn out to be. The third course offering, a basic welding class, looks like another feather in the cap of what is now the Skills Training Committee. The committee evolved out of the strategic plan project and is a collaborative effort by JSDC, James Valley Career and Technology Center and Job Service North Dakota.March 04, 2011
What we think: Bravo to JC women wrestlers

What we think: Cabin Fever Days needs more for community
The Cabin Fever Days event is fast approaching and as has been true for the last several years participation is poor. Set for Feb. 4-13, it’s almost solely sporting activities that were on the calendar already. The lack of interest is unfortunate as it’s the perfect time of the year for a community-wide event. We’re all tired of snow, ice and cold come February so a celebratory event would be a godsend.By Sun Staff , January 28, 2011

What we think: Happy New Year!
It looks as though 2010 is going out with a bang. But, although the weather is nasty and may ruin a lot of New Year’s Eve plans, it was a pretty good year overall. Even though we were threatened by a spring of high water and flooding early in the year, it thankfully never materialized. Instead, it turned out to be a good summer and fall, with one of the best harvests in several years. After what 2009 delivered, it was much appreciated.By Sun Staff , December 31, 2010
What we think: Kiwanis plan earns a bravo
The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos and buffalo chips this week: * Bravo to the news that Jamestown Regional Airport had its 4,000th passenger boarding of the year on Dec. 16 at the airport. The number of boardings had already exceeded all of 2009, according to Mathew Leitner, airport manager. Boardings numbered 3,339 in 2009.By Sun Staff , December 24, 2010
What we think: Merry Christmas to all
Christmas is here and for a brief moment amid the shopping and last-minute preparations we have a moment to relax and enjoy the holiday. It’s time to appreciate the many gifts we have received throughout the year. It’s a time for togetherness with family and loved ones. It’s also important to take time and remember those who cannot be with us for one reason or another.By Sun Staff , December 24, 2010
What we think: Bundle up and enjoy the parade
The Holiday Dazzle on Main Parade kicks off the season tonight in Jamestown. More than 40 floats will make their way up First Avenue from Eighth Street Southeast to Third Street North. And dozens of participants will ride the floats and walk the parade route to share the holiday spirit with us all. At 7 p.m. the parade participants will start the trek from McElroy Park, taking Second Avenue to Eighth Street and then over to First Avenue. Parade goers need to remember the parade will hit First Avenue near Quiznos.By Sun Staff , November 26, 2010
What we think: Re-elect Southeast District judges
Experience is vital in judicial matters. The two incumbents currently serving the Southeast Judicial District deserve re-election. John T. Paulson and Mikal Simonson have served as judges for more than 50 years combined.October 29, 2010
