WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — A Grand Slam title drought did indeed end in Sunday's historic and riveting Wimbledon final, only it was Roger Federer's lengthy-for-him gap between trophies that came to a close, rather than Britain's 76-year wait for a homegrown men's champion.
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — The question drew a chuckle from Novak Djokovic.
Could the prestigious Grand Slam tournament Wimbledon, officially called simply The Championships, be thought of as a dress rehearsal this year?
WIMBLEDON, N.D. — After five years of restoration work, the Midland Continental Railroad Depot Transportation Museum here was revealed to the public Saturday with a grand opening full of entertainment and spectacle.
All of Wimbledon will be televised by ESPN starting next year, ending NBC’s 43-year run broadcasting the Grand Slam tournament.
ESPN and the All England Club announced a 12-year contract Tuesday that gives the cable network the U.S. TV rights to all matches at Wimbledon.
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — So what if Maria Sharapova managed to win only two of the first 13 points of her Wimbledon semifinal Thursday, dropping the first three games?
So what if she bungled her serve so badly that she double-faulted 13 times?
All that mattered to Sharapova was that she roared — well, shrieked — her way back into the match, taking 12 of the last 16 games to beat wild-card entry Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-4, 6-3 and return to the final at the All England Club for the first time since 2004, when she won the title at 17.
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Maria Sharapova, a three-time Grand Slam champion, was not the player receiving unconditional adulation from the fans at Wimbledon on Friday.
That distinction went to her British opponent, 17-year-old left-hander Laura Robson. However, Sharapova came away with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win in the second round on Court 1.
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — After playing so well, so often, at this year’s first two major tournaments, Li Na’s run at Wimbledon came to an early end.
Only 2½ weeks after giving China its first Grand Slam singles championship at the French Open, and five months after being the runner-up at the Australian Open, Li was knocked out in the second round at the All England Club on Thursday, the grass-court tournament’s biggest upset so far.
Back on one of tennis’ top stages, Venus Williams cut a familiar figure Monday at Wimbledon, from her latest original, somewhat-see-through outfit to her trademark booming serves and aggressive groundstrokes.
Voters in the Barnes County North Public School District will go to the polls for the second time in seven months to decide a school bond issue.
An election has been scheduled for April 19 on a $14.5 million bond issue to build a centralized school. The same issue failed on Sept. 20 when it received just less than 50 percent of the vote. It needed a 60 percent majority to pass.
