The Jamestown Taz wrestling team earned 34 places at the state Greco and freestyle wrestling tournaments at the Jamestown Civic Center April 26-27.
The Taz had 20 team members compete in Greco and 24 in freestyle.
Diontrea Anderson, Brant Fields and Paxton Mewes each captured first-place honors in Greco and freestyle.
Brenna Ramirez (left) of Manistee, Mich., and Austin Wortman (right) of Wolf Point, Mont., have signed with the Jimmie women’s wrestling team. Ramirez has placed at various events, including the Body Bar in Oklahoma and Fargo. She is the daughter of Gonzalo Ramirez and Monica Janicki. She plans to study nursing or pre-medicine. Wortman is a three-time placewinner at USGWA Nationals.
The Jamestown Taz placed third in the state folkstyle dual tournament at the Bismarck Civic Center March 29. It was the first time in several years the Taz placed in the ‘A’ division. They beat the Minot Rattlers (45-25) and Bismarck Gorillas (39-33) for the first time in recent history on their run to third place. The Jamestown Taz placed second as a team in the first annual Valley City Kids Dual Tournament on March 8. Jamestown defeated Carrington and Lisbon before narrowly falling to Valley City by three points in the championship.
The Jamestown High School wrestling team held its awards banquet recently.
