At the April 4 meeting Zonta Club of Jamestown finalized its plans for Chocolate Fantasia, the annual chocolate extravaganza which will be held for those 21 and over, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. April 22, at the Gladstone Inn & Suites.

Reed attends Zonta convention; Fischer new member of club

A Jamestown woman was among the more than 1,300 women and men who attended the Zonta International Convention in San Antonio, Texas, in July. Mary Reed served as the voting delegate for the Zonta Club of Jamestown. She made her convention report at the club’s monthly meeting Sept. 1 at the Gladstone Inn & Suites. The biennial convention brings together Zontians from more than 60 countries to discuss the business and activities of the international service organization. As part of her report, Reed described the diversity of professional women she met at the conference and displayed unique pins, materials and jewelry she purchased from various delegations.

Chocolate Fantasia draws chocolate fans

It was very nearly a chocolate overload for some Chocolate Fantasia goers Saturday. A $10 ticket bought eight samples of chocolate concoctions at Zonta’s fundraiser this year in the banquet room of the Gladstone Inn & Suites. Those attending were to eat each sample, then pick their favorite for the People’s Choice Award. Emma Rosie’s Homecooking won although Pam Phillips, the event’s chair, said the Buffalo City Grille’s tiramisu ran a close second.

Jamestown Zonta to hold Chocolate Fantasia

Who makes the best chocolate creation? That question will be answered Feb. 6 at a Zonta Club of Jamestown fundraiser during Cabin Fever Days. Chocolate Fantasia is a chocolate competition and shopping opportunity from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 6, at the Gladstone Inn & Suites.

Jamestown Zonta Club initiates two members

Zonta Club of Jamestown initiated two new members at its Dec. 2 meeting at Gladstone Inn & Suites. Zonta President Judy Nohrenberg welcomed Ann Eubanks and Kara Helgeson to the Jamestown service organization that supports the advancement of the status of women worldwide. Eubanks is a professor in business at Jamestown College, and Helgeson is a lawyer at Dalsted & Ryan.

Zonta to award $300 scholarship

Applications for the 2010 Young Women in Public Affairs Award are now available from the Zonta Club of Jamestown by contacting Laurel Haroldson. The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.

Geidt speaks on Kenya at Zonta

Doris Geidt shared her experiences in Kenya, visiting widows and families struggling to survive, with Zontians at their meeting on Sept. 2. Geidt traveled to Kenya as part of the Christian Mission Aid’s CLEAR program (Community Leaders Educated Aids Response) and Temple Baptist Church of Jamestown. She talked about the many challenges faced by the women in remote rural village, such as early marriages (pre-teens), lack of educational opportunities and legal rights, and long hours of labor to care for livestock, crops and families.

Lang speaks to Zonta Club

While North Dakota ranks near the bottom of the incidence of HIV/AIDS in the United States, it is still a disease that North Dakotans of all ages need to learn about, Genie Lang of the North Dakota Health Department told 15 Zontians and guests Aug. 5. Lang, of Jamestown, was the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Zonta Club of Jamestown at the Gladstone Inn and Suites.

Zonta Club sponsors Chocolate Fever

Zonta Club of Jamestown’s Chocolate Fever kicked off this year’s chocolate fest Feb. 7 at the Buffalo Mall. Dozens of chocolate lovers donated $7 for early tastes of the traditional Valentine’s Day staple. Zonta’s annual Chocolate Fever was part of Jamestown’s annual Cabin Fever celebrations held around town.

The event, which includes booths by area businesses, individuals, clubs and organizations, is part of Cabin Fever Week sponsored by Jamestown Parks and Recreation.
