Water meeting: City invites parties to discuss dispute

A joint meeting between the Jamestown City Council and Stutsman Rural Water District might be skipped by the members of the Rural Water Board of Directors. The idea for the meeting was voiced by Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen at the end of an executive session of the City Council Monday. “What good is another meeting,” Geneva Kaiser, manager of Stutsman Rural Water, said in an interview Tuesday. “The board sees it as a public bickering session.”

Diversion progress is excellent

It’s been a couple of very good months for the Fargo-Moorhead diversion project. The North Dakota Legislature appropriated sufficient funding for Fargo flood control projects, and signaled that state support for the diversion was solid. The U.S. Senate passed the Water Resources Development Act, which includes authorization for permanent flood control in the Red River Valley, which includes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-favored diversion.

Letter to the editor: Session hampered by questionable priorities

Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner, R-Dickinson, and House Majority Leader Al Carlson, R-Fargo, recently boasted that they “got the job done for the citizens.” If that’s the definition of getting the job done, we fully expect the people of North Dakota to decide someone else should do the job. Too often, tremendous opportunities were squandered by an overly-ideological GOP majority with seriously misplaced priorities.
