City looks at ordinance: Proposal would regulate adult-oriented businesses

The city of Jamestown will consider its first ordinance concerning sexually-oriented entertainment at its June meeting. The motion to move a first reading the ordinance concerning “adult cabarets” and “escort services” passed by a 3-2 vote at the Finance and Legal Committee meeting of the Jamestown City Council Thursday.

Helping farmers in need

Farm Rescue continues to step up for farmers and ranchers in the region. This month volunteers and equipment zeroed in on two farm operations in the Washburn area where they saved the day by getting crops in the ground. Injuries in handling livestock had put planting at risk on farms belonging to Glenda Scholl and Chad Berg.

Jays win opener

It was a gut reaction by Tyler Ukestad, but it meant everything to the Jamestown High School baseball team on Thursday night. Ukestad hurdled Mandan catcher Trever Leingang on his way to scoring his team’s second run during a four-run fourth inning. Landon Weiser followed with a two-run single as the third-seeded Blue Jays topped sixth-seeded Mandan 4-1 in the opening round of the West Region tournament at Veterans Memorial Ballpark.

Reyes advances at nationals

Aleona Reyes will run for All-American honors on Saturday. The Jamestown College junior standout overcame poor weather conditions to place third in her heat and fifth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NAIA national meet in Marion, Ind.

Jimmies add five more recruits

Jamestown College football coach Shawn Frank has inked five more players to letters of intent. Dezmund Pettigrew, a 6-foot, 180-pound wide receiver from Fontana, Calif., brings size and speed to the JC receiving group.
