Letter to the editor: ND should lead the charge on the flag
Where is the North Dakota congressional delegation on the patriotism of our flag and the NFL. You would think knowing North Dakota that it would that it would be a no brainer. I moved here 10 years ago and fell in love with North Dakota values. It is a state where people celebrate 50-year anniversaries like class reunions. It is a state where we still do not open stores till after noon on Sundays. We go to church. I see 50 to 100 people go to church on a daily basis, we do not lock our doors and we leave our cars running while we go into the store. I asked my friend at the time “Why wouldn’t someone steal your truck?” He simply looked at me and said, “Well, because it would be wrong.”
We help each other out in times of need. I have witnessed this firsthand during the floods and the blizzards. I was stranded for two days at the Steele gas station in the middle of a blizzard with 200 other individuals. There were over 800 vehicles needing towed after that night. We all had a great time meeting and greeting each other.
So with all these great values of God and country right and wrong where are Sen. John Hoeven, Rep. Kevin Cramer and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. They seem to be on the sideline, noncommittal. How can they not take a stand? Is this how we got into $2 trillion mess, Obamacare, wiretapping and Benghazi? Why are they there if they cannot stand up for one simple value (patriotism)? I will tell you why, they value the opinions of their peers more so than the values of North Dakotans. They have drunk the Kool-Aid and seem only to care about their positions. Well, like President Trump says, it’s time to drain the swamp. I have decided to boycott my beloved sports because I value God and country first. When 8-year-olds start disrespecting our flag and country I know what side to be on. John, Kevin, Heidi get it together or get out and let true statesman in. North Dakota should be leading the charge.
