Jennings, DeMent to perform in Fargo

Mason Jennings and Iris DeMent will perform at the Fargo Theatre on April 4. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m.

Before Jennings set to work on his latest album, at the advice of his friend, the Minnesota-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist holed up in the back room of his wood-nestled cabin studio with a guitar, electric piano, bookshelf, notebook, tape recorder and one 90-minute cassette — then wrote all winter long. Emerging with the notebook and tape full of about 30 new songs, Jennings decided to skip his standard approach of self-recording and called on producer Bo Ramsey, as well as a lineup of guest musicians that includes DeMent and Neil Young drummer Chad Cromwell. “Always Been” is the result of those “dream collaborations” and his own inspiration.

DeMent’s most recent offering, “Sing The Delta,” presents 12 self-penned compositions.

“I didn’t know when or if I’d make another record,” she said. “I gave up on trying to steer it or force it and decided to just make myself available in my heart and mind as much as I could and leave the rest up to fate.”

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday. All seats are reserved, $29.50 for all ages. Additional fees may apply. Tickets are available at, at the Tickets300 box office (300 Broadway, Fargo; open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), or by calling 866-300-8300.

The Fargo Theatre is located at 314 Broadway N, Fargo.
