First baby of 2018

A son born to a New Rockford couple is the first birth of 2018 in Jamestown.

Troy Allen Meadows was born at 8:13 a.m. Tuesday at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

Troy's mother, Monica Meadows, is a science teacher at New Rockford-Sheyenne High School. His father, Will Meadows, is a crop adjuster with NAU Country Insurance Co.

The baby was due on Jan. 6, and a Cesarean section was planned for Tuesday, Monica said.

"We've had this scheduled for a couple of days," Monica said on Tuesday afternoon. "I didn't know if we'd be the first one (birth of 2018) because it was on Jan. 2."

Mother and son are in good health but the surgery will will keep both in the hospital until Friday, she said.

"Everybody is excited to meet the baby, that's for sure," Will said of family.

Troy is the Meadows' second child. They also have a 2-year-old daughter, Vera.

"She is excited to meet her little brother," Will said.

There were 333 births at JRMC in 2017, to include 180 boys and 153 girls, according to JRMC Family BirthPlace. There were 318 births in 2016.

There were 347 births in 2015 and 336 births in 2014, according to JRMC Family BirthPlace.
