Recovery Walk set for Wednesday
The Third Annual Recovery Walk is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in McElroy Park by the Sertoma Shelter.
The event will feature a one-mile walk, speech by Mayor Katie Andersen, and music provided by a band. The event is free and open to the public.
The walk is for anyone who has suffered with mental health or substance abuse, said Lindsey Hollsten, a licensed addiction counselor with South Central Human Service Center.
After the walk there will be food and socialization while the band plays.
September is Recovery Month for 2011 and Hollsten said the walk is a way to celebrate people who are sober and to let people know that treatment works.
She said to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on if people plan to watch the band.
If there is inclement weather, the event will be held at Jamestown High School at 6 p.m.
