Artist in Residency program available

The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department and the North Dakota Council on the Arts are partnering for the 6th Annual Artist in Residency program within the state parks. The Artist in Residency program offers artists the opportunity to stay and work in these environments for a week where they’ll have the opportunity to draw inspiration from the location, demonstrate their skills and assist park visitors of all ages in discovering their artistic side.

Through the program, three artists are invited to stay one week at either Beaver Lake State Park, Lake Metigoshe State Park or Icelandic State Park. The 2014 residencies will take place at BLSP and LMSP from Aug. 10-17 and at ISP from Aug. 17-24 as a collaborative effort to incorporate arts into the interpretive and educational activities presented by North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department.

The program is recruiting writers, composers, visual and performing artists to experience North Dakota’s state parks and resources, allowing them to illustrate their experiences through their talents while providing opportunities for park visitors to do the same by participating in hands-on workshops. The program is for serious professionals who deeply care about the state parks, wanting to contribute to them as well as benefit from them.

Applications for the Artist in Residency Program can be obtained by emailing or by going online at www.parkrec.nd. gov.
