Two men killed in crash west of Valley City

Two men were killed in a two-vehicle crash 12 miles west of Valley City early Wednesday morning, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 12:23 a.m.

A 35-year-old Fargo man was driving a 2017 Hyundai Elantra west in the eastbound lane of Interstate 94. A 31-year-old Crane Lake, Minn., man was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastbound on I-94. The patrol said the Dodge was passing another vehicle when the Hyundai, going the wrong way, collided head-on with the Dodge.

The Dodge came to a stop on the shoulder after the head-on collision, while the Hyundai went into the median.

The driver of the Hyundai was ejected from the car. The driver of the Dodge was extricated. Both were pronounced dead at CHI Mercy Health in Valley City after being transported there by Barnes County Ambulance. A passenger in the Dodge, a 53-year-old Orr, Minn., man, was transported by Barnes County Ambulance to CHI Mercy Health, treated for minor injuries and released. The driver and passenger in the Dodge wore seat belts; the driver of the Hyundai did not.

The patrol is investigating the crash.

The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, Sanborn Fire Department and Valley City Fire Department also responded to the scene.
