SD man sent to prison for four years for robbing bank in old man mask
YANKTON, S.D. -- A 27-year-old Yankton man will spend four years in prison for robbing a Wells Fargo Bank in the far southern South Dakota city while wearing an old man mask and carrying a cardboard box.
David William Giese was sentenced Monday, Nov. 6, in federal court on the charge of bank robbery. He was also ordered to pay $6,900 in restitution.
On July 26, 2016, Giese robbed the bank at about 4:55 p.m. when he approached the teller and stated, “Give me all your money. There’s a bomb in the box.” Giese also handed the teller a handwritten note that stated he had a bomb and demanded money. After the teller provided cash from the drawer, Giese left the sealed cardboard box on the counter and told all of the bank employees not to call the police for 30 minutes otherwise the bomb would detonate. Giese left the scene in his vehicle.
This case was investigated by the Yankton Police Department and the FBI.
Giese was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. marshals.
