SD man who caused girlfriend to go blind in one eye found guilty of assault
EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. -- A 26-year-old many from Eagle Butte in far northwest South Dakota was found guilty by a federal jury of assaulting his girlfriend threw two objects at her, striking her in the face and causing blindness to her right eye.
Phillip Mound was found guilty of simple assault and assault by striking, beating, and wounding in the trial in Pierre. He faces about 18 months in prison on the two convictions for the incident on Oct. 18, 2016.
This case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date was set for Jan. 22, 2018. The defendant was taken into custody by the U.S. marshals.
