Child airlifted after Steele County crash

STEELE COUNTY, N.D.-- Two people were injured and one was taken to the hospital by helicopter after a pickup failed to yield and crashed into a sedan Tuesday evening west of Galesburg, N.D.

The Highway Patrol said a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 23-year-old Ryan Ust failed to yield the right of way at an intersection and hit the passenger side of a Chevrolet Malibu driven by 37-year-old Bekka Dahl, who had an 8-year-old boy in the car.

The wreck occurred about 10 miles west of Galesburg at the intersection of Steele County Road 1 and 137th Street Southeast, according to the Highway Patrol. The Malibu was traveling westbound on County Road 1 at the time.

The Malibu was driven into a cornfield in the southwest corner of the intersection, troopers said. The child passenger was taken to Stanford Hospital in Fargo by Life Flight helicopter. The driver of the Malibu was not injured.

The truck flipped after the wreck, but rolled upright. Ust, the driver, was taken to a medical facility by a personal vehicle for injuries.
