DUI, wrong way driver causes crash

A wrong-way driver was charged with DUI after causing a collision Thursday in Cass County, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 7:53 p.m., when a 2005 Dodge Stratus driven by Brad Samples, 32, of Kindred, N.D., was eastbound in the westbound Interstate 94 exit 340 ramp to Kindred about 2 miles west of West Fargo. The Dodge struck a westbound 2015 Chevrolet Malibu head on.

Samples was transported by Casselton Ambulance to Sanford Health in Fargo for possible injuries. He was charged with driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a one-way road, the patrol said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Alyx Schmitz, 19, Oakes, N.D., was not injured in the crash, the patrol said. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and airbags were deployed.

The crash is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol. Cass County Sheriff's Office and West Fargo Fire Department also responded to the scene.
