Road rage preceded shooting at Grand Forks convenience store, police say
GRAND FORKS — Bond has been set at $35,000 for Jody Christopher Bergland Jr., who is accused of shooting and wounding a man Monday at a Grand Forks convenience store.
Bergland, 24, is charged with attempted murder, a Class A felony, and reckless endangerment, a Class C felony, after police say he shot Glenn Robert Hansen at the Valley Dairy at 2401 S. Columbia Road.
Hansen was struck in the upper left arm by the bullet and was released from the hospital after being treated for his injuries. Investigators believe the confrontation came as a result of a disagreement on the road between the two men. An affidavit of probable cause states Hansen approached Bergland’s vehicle in the Valley Dairy Parking lot and that Bergland fired a handgun at him within four seconds.
He was arrested about two hours later and claimed self-defense in an interview with detectives, charging documents state, and said Hansen came at him with a knife. But officers who reviewed the surveillance video at Valley Dairy said they did not see that in the footage.
