ND man pleads guilty in sexual abuse case
WILLISTON, N.D. -- A 38-year-old man charged last year with continuous sexual abuse of a child pleaded guilty Monday, Aug. 20, to a lesser charge.
Continuous sexual abuse of a child is a class AA felony, which carries a maximum penalty of up to life in prison without the possibility of parole. James Gregory McCall of Williston pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition, a class A felony.
Under the terms of a proposed agreement, prosecutors are asking the judge to sentence McCall to 10 years in prison, with two years suspended. After his release, McCall would have to register as a sex offender and be on supervised probation for eight years.
His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 4.
Police say he forced a young teenage girl to perform sex acts from June through October.
Williams County Social Services began investigating on Oct. 4 after receiving a report that the girl, 13, was being abused. The girl told forensic interviewers that McCall masturbated in front of her, tried to make her feel guilty if she did not perform sex acts with him, and forced her to touch his genitals, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed Oct. 24 in Northwest District Court.
