Kinzell wins Stutsman County Spelling Bee

Kalen Kinzell, a sixth-grader from Pingree-Buchanan Public School, won the Stutsman County Spelling Bee for the second year in a row on Feb. 14 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown.
Kalen is the daughter of Teage and Kristie Kinzell.
Runner-up was Noah Webster, Hillcrest SDA School in Jamestown. Noah is the son of Ben and Brenda Weber.
Seventy-two students in grades 1-8 representing sixth schools participated in the written competition.
Twenty-eight students in grades 5-8 participated in the written competition with 10 advancing to the oral round finals. The finalists, in addition to Kalen and Noah, in the oral round were: Jersey Tripp and Lilly Bohl, also from Pingree-Buchanan; Leyton Kahler , Hillcrest SDA School; Jackson Jarrett, St. John’s Academy; Kyle Johnson, Kensal; August Harms, Montpelier, and Eli Leik and Kennedy Behm from Medina.
Kalen Kinzell will represent Stutsman County at the North Dakota State Spelling Bee on March 26 in Bismarck. The state competition is cosponsored by the North Dakota Association of County Superintendents and the North Dakota Newspaper Association. The winner of the State Bee will advance to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Forty-four students in grades 1-4 also competed in written competition. Ribbons were awarded to the following students:
