BCTF to wait on plan unveil

The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Board of Directors will wait until it has reviewed all the information about a new marketing plan, which includes a rebranding of the foundation itself, to present the plan to the public.

The BCTF Board will hold its annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. March 24 at the Arts Center in Jamestown. The annual meeting will include reports on what the BCTF did during 2013 and an election of board officers.

BCTF Executive Director Searle Swedlund said with work wrapping up on a new marketing plan for the foundation, he wanted to know if the board wanted the marketing information that was gathered over the last five months presented to the public at the annual meeting.

The board’s Marketing Committee made up of board members Lisa Barnick, Tanae Clocksene and Toni Pirkl, has been working with Pat Yatskis of Redplum Media to come up with a new marketing plan since September. The work has included a survey of partners and users of the BCTF’s services.

Board members said they wanted to review the marketing plan thoroughly before making any presentation to the public.

Jon Lillejord, BCTF Board member, said the BCTF Board should hold a separate meeting just to review the marketing plan before presenting it to the public.

In other business, the board made no decision on whether it would consider any candidates for its annual Spotlight on Tourism Award. Swedlund said the last time the board gave out the award was in 2012 to Harold Newman, who died on Thursday, and his daughter, Kari Ness.
