Water tower color decision expected in April

The Jamestown City Council will make a decision on the color of the city’s south water tower during its April 7 meeting.

The Public Works Committee reached a consensus on the topic at its meeting Thursday.

Councilman Steve Brubakken proposed adding the Blue Jay logo to the tower when it’s painted in April or May. He said he was concerned about additional costs if a logo is put on the tower after it’s painted, which was noted during the City Council’s March 3 meeting.

Mayor Katie Andersen said she felt discussing a logo without input from a group backing the logo made her uncomfortable. She also said that a new logo design for the Buffalo City Tourism Foundation was being developed by Redplum Media.

Travis Dillman, project engineer for Interstate Engineering, said any decisions on a color or logo must be made during the first half of April. Paint crews could start work on the tower in April if the weather is good.

The committee decided to make all color and logo decisions at the April meeting, and any group wishing to propose a logo for the tower needs to present the information at that time.

The Public Works Committee also approved June 2-7 as the 2014 citywide clean-up week and approved a $5,543 change order to the sanitary sewer lift station project to add a fall protection device to a lift station ladder above the sewage pumps.
