BCTF set to unveil new brand and logo

Buffalo City Tourism Foundation will unveil its new brand and logo at a public unveiling from 4 to 6 p.m. May 9 at the Arts Center, 115 2nd St. SW.

The BCTF staff and board have seen the new logo and brand, but have not revealed any details about them to the public. For $19,824, the foundation hired Red Plum Media, an advertising and media consulting business in Jamestown, to guide the foundation through a rebranding process that started in late summer 2013.

The board’s marketing committee, made up of members Tanea Clocksene, Toni Pirkl and Mitzi Hager, has worked with Red Plum and the foundation’s paid staff, Executive Director Searle Swedlund and Cassie Theurer, office manager and digital media strategist, to come up with the logo and brand.

Clocksene said the unveiling is going to be a visual experience, with Red Plum working on a special layout for the presentation.

“It’s not like we’ll have one person up front speaking, there are a lot of visual elements to this unveiling,” she said.

Swedlund said the foundation is planning for about 375 people to attend the unveiling. The foundation is sending out invitations over the next week to “stakeholders,” businesses, individuals and groups that participated in a community survey done in late fall that was used to help develop the brand and logo.

The invitation states there is a “private unveil” at 4:15 p.m.

Board President Alden Kollman said the idea is for the invited stakeholders to get the first look at the new brand and logo. But since the BCTF is funded by public tax funds, any members of the public who show up at any time during the unveiling are welcome.

“It (the unveiling) is not restricted, the public can come in at any time,” he said.

Clocksene said the foundation wants to get as many people as possible to show up for the unveiling so foundation members can get feedback about the new logo and brand. BCTF members will be on hand to answer questions about the logo and brand.

Swedlund said the new brand and logo will be used in all the BCTF’s advertising and promotional materials and will be available for other organizations and businesses to use, with specific guidelines on how the brand and logo may be used.

Kollman said the foundation board has been working on this rebranding effort for almost a year, and he can’t wait for the public to see it.

“This unveiling will be a celebration. A lot of hard work has gone into this,” he said.

Before the board of directors meeting, the board’s executive committee met to review a grant request of $10,000 from the Jamestown Civic Center for the North Dakota Roughrider Rodeo State Finals, Sept. 25-27. The committee approved the request, with funds being used for advertising the event around the state.
