Flag Day events set
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States which is celebrated on June 14 of every year. The first Flag Day was on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress of the United States.
On Saturday, Jamestown will celebrate Flag Day with a ceremony at Fort Seward. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will have some learning activities from 9 to 11 a.m. At 11 a.m. the public is invited to come celebrate Flag Day as a community. There will be short ceremony and flag retirement demonstration. After the ceremony there will be a hotdog lunch for a freewill donation while supplies last.
Some activities the scouts will partake in are a Flag Day craft, flag etiquette, flag folding and flag ceremonies.
Members of the public who have American flags that require retirement are encouraged to bring them to Fort Seward Saturday and attend the ceremony and lunch.
