Click It or Ticket starts Nov. 1
The Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign gets underway Nov. 1, according to the Code for the Road initiative of the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
The federally funded program is designed to save lives by having law enforcement across the state add extra patrols for the purpose of enforcing seat belt laws, according to Code for the Road. The program runs through Dec. 15.
Last year in North Dakota, one unbelted vehicle occupant died in a motor vehicle crash every four days, according to NDDoT. Not wearing a seat belt continues to be the No. 1 contributing factor of motor vehicle fatalities in North Dakota.
“Wearing a seat belt is the single most important thing anyone in a motor vehicle can do to protect themselves in case of a crash,” said Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser. “Lives are saved every year when people buckle up, and we hope this Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign helps North Dakotans understand the need to buckle up every trip, every time.”
