Update: One shot at Ohio veterans hospital, suspect in custody

One employee was shot in the leg on Monday at a medical center serving U.S. veterans in Dayton, Ohio, and a suspect has been taken into custody, a medical center spokesman said.

The Dayton VA Medical Center campus remains locked down since the midday incident and authorities are searching the facility room-to-room to ensure that there are no other suspects, said spokesman Ted Froats.

"We don't have reason to suspect there are more shooters, but we want to be safe rather than sorry," Froats said.

The condition of the wounded person was not known and Froats said he had no other details about the shooting, which took place in the basement of the hospital's main building.

No further details on the shooter or the victim were immediately available.

The area where the shooting occurred is open to patients, Froats said, adding that he did not believe medical services were performed there. But appointments at the medical center were canceled until further notice.

The shooting suspect was apprehended by security at another Dayton-area hospital and was taken into custody by Dayton police, Dayton city spokesman Bryan Taulbee said in a statement.
