College on lockdown after reported shooting on campus
ATLANTA - Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, ordered the school's campus closed and placed on lockdown on Monday after a reported shooting, a newspaper reported.
Authorities are investigating reports of an active shooter on campus, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said.
The school said on its official Twitter feed that it was working closely with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. An official for the sheriff's office could not be immediately reached for comment.
A phone call to a Paine official went unanswered.
A historically black college, Paine has more than 800 students and is located some 140 miles (225 km) east of Atlanta, according to its website.
