Woman stabbed at house in north Willmar, suspect remains in house

WILLMAR, Minn. -- A 64-year-old woman was stabbed just after 8 a.m. this morning along 13th Street Northwest and the suspect in the assault is now in a standoff with Willmar law enforcement officers.

According to Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt, the woman ran to a neighboring residence to seek help after the stabbing and was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. She was expected to be airlifted by Life Link helicopter to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. The name of the woman has not been released by law enforcement.

The suspect, identified as a 19-year-old male, is believed to be in the home and officers will attempt to contact him and persuade him to give himself up, Felt said. However, the “peacekeeper” reinforced vehicle used by local law enforcement is being brought to the scene to be used to forcibly enter the home if necessary.

The incident was not a random act and the victim and suspect were known to each other, Felt said. There is no threat to public safety.

Also on the scene are the Kandiyohi County Sheriff Office and State Patrol.
