Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck make list of top 100 cities to live in
FARGO -- Three North Dakota cities have made the list of the best places to live in the United States -- and they were all bunched together.
The rankings by Livability.com put Fargo at No. 76, followed by Bismarck at 78th and Grand Forks at 79th.
Cities in nearby states making the list were Rochester, Minn., at the highest ranking at No. 9. Edina, Minn., at No 58, Sioux Falls, S.D., at No. 64 and Brookings, S.D., at No. 80.
If it’s any comfort to those who don’t like the weather here, Miami Beach, Fla., was below all those cities at No. 87.
The list was built on a process developed with one of the world’s leading urban theorists, Richard Florida. Almost 2,300 U.S. cities were examined by a research team.
“The 2018 Best Place to Live list includes a fascinating mix of familiar cities and first-timers that are starting to carve out a reputation as wonderful places to live,” said Winona Dimeo-Ediger, Livability.com’s managing editor. “It’s great to see these under-the-radar cities getting more attention on a national scale — and the accolades are certainly well-deserved.”
Here’s what the website said about Fargo-Moorhead: “Fargo is obviously a hub for education and is also strong in the medical sector with Sanford Health. Situated on the Red River that separates it from neighboring Moorhead, Fargo ranks high in outdoor activities because of many parks, 90 miles of trails and 17 outdoor hockey/ice skating rinks. The city has a low tax structure ideal for attracting businesses, and cultural attractions include museums, theaters and art galleries. With its college town feel, Fargo offers multiple opportunities for shopping, dining and frequenting nighttime hotspots, and there are good housing options in many scenic neighborhoods. In addition, the tech sector here is growing in leaps and bounds.”
The top three cities on the list were Ann Arbor, Mich., Manhattan, Kan., and Corvallis, Ore.
