Water Resource Board approves new wetlands

The Stutsman County Water Resource Board approved a plan to plug a natural waterway to create about 5 acres of new wetlands in Chicago Township.

Matt Rau told the Water Resource Board plugging the drain waterway would create four basins of new wetlands to mitigate or replace other wetlands on his property where a drain tile system had been installed.

Arlyn Schmidt, vice chairman of the board, said the project appeared to be confined to Rau’s own property and did not impact any neighbors.
