Applications can be made for TAP funds
North Dakota counties, cities and other entities have until Dec. 19 to apply for the 2014 federal fiscal year round of Transportation Alternatives Program Funds.
TAP is a new program established by Congress in the current highway bill Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century. The funds are administered by the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
Projects eligible for TAP funds include:
* bicycle and pedestrian projects.
* construction of turn-outs, overlooks and viewing areas along roadways.
* community improvement activities including preservation and rehabilitation of historic transportation facilities; vegetation management practices in transportation rights-of-way to improve roadway safety, prevent invasive species growth and provide erosion control; and archaeological activities relating to impacts from implementation of a transportation project.
* environmental mitigation activity including pollution prevention and pollution abatement activities.
