N.D. effort seeks to put wreaths on veterans’ graves

BISMARCK (AP) — A North Dakota group is taking part in a national effort to cover the headstones on veterans’ graves with holiday wreaths.

The Bismarck Tribune reported that the Bismarck Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol takes part in the Wreaths Across America event each year.

Roughly 5,000 wreaths will have to be sponsored this year for each headstone to be covered in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Each wreath costs $15 to sponsor.

Kevin Iverson, who is leading the effort, said no community has ever covered every headstone in the history of the event. But he says last year about 90 percent of the headstones were covered at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, one of the largest efforts in the nation.
