Separate ceremonies honor N.D. National Guard units

BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota political leaders and others paid tribute to two of the state’s National Guard units on opposite ends of deployment.

Separate events were held for the groups Saturday in Bismarck. It was a homecoming for the Guard’s 1919th Contingency Contracting Unit, and a send-off ceremony for the 814th Medical Company.

The 1919th soldiers spent a year in Afghanistan and Qatar. The unit specializes in planning, coordinating and issuing contracts for supplies and other services needed to support other U.S. troops.

The 814th company has about 65 soldiers who will deploy to Afghanistan to provide emergency trauma service and operate troop medical clinics.

North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven said both units are made up of “highly skilled, disciplined soldiers” who along with their families are making great sacrifices.
