Train strikes pickup; woman killed

BALDWIN, Wis. — A woman was killed Wednesday when a train struck the pickup she was riding in east of Baldwin.

Gloria H. Marske, 69, of Cumberland, was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by her husband, Roy L. Marske, 69.

According to a St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office news release, the truck crossed the railroad tracks just before noon Wednesday as it was leaving a U.S. Highway 12 address. Roy Marske was trying to back up off the tracks when the train struck the vehicle on the passenger side, the release said.

Gloria Marske had to be extricated from the truck. Both Marskes were taken to Baldwin Area Medical Center, where Gloria was pronounced dead. Roy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No members of the train’s crew were injured. The train was carrying mixed cargo containers.

The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.

About seven miles to the west, Benjamin C. Morgan, 53, of Hudson, was killed Monday when a train struck his truck just east of Roberts.
