Devils Lake man killed in one-vehicle crash
A man was killed Sunday evening when his minivan collided with a concrete pillar on Interstate 29 near Buxton, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Monte Allen Armentrout, 53, of Devils Lake, was driving a 1998 Ford Minivan southbound on I-29 and had just passed another vehicle. After merging into the right lane, Armentrout started to weave back and forth within its lane, and then slowly drifted across the left lane and entered the median still going south.
According to the NDHP report, it appeared that Armentrout was trying to get his vehicle under control without braking, but it continued fishtailing back and forth in the median.
As the minivan approached a bridge pillar, Armentrout turned to the right. The vehicle hit the center concrete pillar of the bridge.
Armentrout suffered fatal injuries from the crash.
The Traill County Sheriff's Office and the Buxton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
