Red River Valley winter not really all that cold

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) -- It's been a cold winter in the Red River Valley of North Dakota, but the National Weather Service says it really hasn't been all that bad.

Data manager Mark Ewens tells the Grand Forks Herald that so far it's only the 26th-coldest winter on record for Grand Forks, and only the 46th-coldest for Fargo.

Ewens says that two-thirds of the way through winter, there's only been one real cold snap.

It has been a snowy winter, though. Grand Forks is nearly 11 inches above normal and Fargo about 30 inches above.
