Area Football Roundup: Jays to host playoff game

Jamestown High School and Ernie Gates Field will play host to the Class AA football state quarterfinals this week.

Senior running back Jared Harr scored four touchdowns Saturday in Grafton, powering Jamestown to a 52-15 victory over the Spoilers in the final game of the regular season. The win locked up fourth in the division and Jamestown (6-3) will host Watford City (6-3) this Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Blue Jays defeated Watford City 43-6 at Ernie Gates on Sept. 1.

A 19-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Falk to Harr as time expired in the first half Saturday put the Blue Jays ahead of the Spoilers 18-9 at the break. Jamestown's senior kicker Connor Fuchs converted a 44-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Harr and the Jays broke open the flood gates in the third quarter, rushing the ball into the end zone three more times.

Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm defeated Harvey-Wells County 49-24 in the opening round of the Class A state playoffs Saturday in Edgeley.

Senior all-state running back Clayton Grueneich carried five touchdowns into the end zone for the defending state champion Thunder. E-E-K (8-1) will play Langdon-Edmore-Munich (9-0) in the state quarterfinals Saturday in Langdon.

Cardinals top Oak Grove

Carrington turned away Fargo Oak Grove 20-14 in the opening round of the Class A state football playoffs Saturday in Carrington.

A 40-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Schmitz to Jayden Shipman with 1 minute, 7 seconds left in the game was the difference. The Cards' Drew Page finished with 113 rushing yards and a score on 15 carries.

Carrington (8-1) will play the Hillsboro-Central Valley Burros (9-0) in the quarterfinals Saturday in Hillsboro.

NGS defeats Hankinson

Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter defeated Hankinson 21-14 in the second round of the state 9-man football playoffs Saturday in Napoleon.

The Imperials' Nathan Weigel rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns, while Jamison Fettig added 169 yards on the ground. Neither team scored in the second half.

The Imperials (9-0) will play Cavalier (9-0) in the state quarterfinals Saturday in Cavalier.
