Fargo, Grand Forks experience record low maximum temps

Both Fargo and Grand Forks experienced record low maximum temperatures for the date on Saturday, Dec. 30, according to the National Weather Service.

The maximum temperature at Grand Forks International Airport on Saturday was minus 17 degrees. The maximum at Fargo's Hector International Airport was minus 15. The previous low maximum at both locations on Dec. 30 was minus 13.

Among the coldest temperatures recorded in eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota on Sunday morning were in Wilton, Minn. (minus 37) and Park Rapids, Minn. (minus 34). Unusually cold wind chills were recorded in Mahnomen, Minn. (minus 53) and Devils Lake, N.D. (minus 46).

Fargo's low on Sunday morning was minus 24 with a low wind chill of minus 40. Grand Forks' Sunday morning low was minus 25 with a low wind chill of minus 41.
