Recount scheduled in Stutsman County Commission race

JAMESTOWN SPEEDWAY: Carter stays alive; Moore wins second straight

In order to stay in the hunt for the WISSOTA Street Stocks title, Jonny Carter and Rory Opp desperately needed a victory Saturday night at Jamestown Speedway.

Carter opted for the high side, while Opp went low. But about halfway through the Feature race the high side finally won.

The Lisbon native led the final eight laps as he notched his fourth win of the season, all at Jamestown Speedway, with an 1.732-second victory.

"The race was good and the track looked good," Carter said in victory lane. "The track had two lanes for most of the race. I found something up on the top side, it was pretty marginal up there, but we made it work."

Carter was trailing Robert Banish Jr., the point leader by 27 points coming into the race but managed to reduce the deficit to 14 with his victory and Banish's fourth-place finish. The champion of all four race classes will be decided on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.

"We don't worry about points," Carter deadpanned.

Opp, a Hannaford native, reduced his points deficit from by eight to trail by 39 going into the final race next weekend. He remains in third place in the Street Stock standings.

"The car was real good," Opp said. "We were running out of rubber so we just couldn't do anything. But I had a lot of fun again."

Jamestown's Brian Hanson Jr. led the first lap of the race but Opp passed him using the low side the next time around. Opp held on for the next 11 laps—including two cautions—until Carter's high side eventually became too much.

Moore wins second straight race

After 14-year-old Gregory Moore pulled off a dramatic first-ever Bombers victory on Saturday, Aug. 11, the Jamestown native showed it wasn't a fluke.

Moore led every lap for the second-straight week to hold off Clay Gentzkow and Erik Busche for the 1.871-second victory.

"We've had the same setup going as we did last weekend," Moore said. "The setup we had was good for these track conditions."

During Moore's first-ever Feature victory last weekend, he was cruising through the first 12 laps until Gentzkow tried a daring inside move in Turn 2 that sent Moore's No. 14 car tail-end.

Moore's car was okay and he moved back to the front of the pack for the green-white-checkered where he once again won over Bushe.

Moore's camp said after his first win that many people didn't like how we won and even called him a "cheater."

"If anything, being called a cheater is a compliment," Moore said. "We did go through tech and nothing was wrong with the car.

"This time I didn't hear any complaints about anything."

The Jamestown High School freshman now has three Top 5s and seven Top 10s to go along with his two wins.

"I was just hoping to get a few Top 5s this year," Moore said about his rookie season. "I was hoping a win would be pretty cool but two in a row is pretty cool."

Leann Christensen currently leads the Bombers point race over Gentzkow by five points. The Spiritwood native doesn't have a victory on the year, but has placed in the top five in seven of nine races. After Gentzkow, Billy Carow trails by 63 and Tony Smith is behind by 67.

Wolla, Grimes notch victories

Jamestown's Jason Grimes cruised to victory in the 20-lap WISSOTA Midwest Mods Feature race after leading the final 18 laps.

"We've been searching for something in our car and I guess we found it," Grimes said. "The track was beautiful, it was a great time and I'm glad we came out here."

Ray's Jason Wolla led the final 13 laps of the IMCA Modifieds Feature, the last race of the evening, to grab his first victory at Jamestown Speedway this season.

Heat races from Jamestown Speedway gets underway at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25. The final event of the season is the three-day 47th Annual Stock Car Stampede from Sept. 21-23.
