The funeral for Adella Mae Kjos, 84, Jamestown, ND formerly of Kulm, ND will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND. Visitation will be two hours before the service. Interment will be at the Kulm Congregational Cemetery, Kulm, ND.
Adella Kleingartner was born February 18, 1933 to Christ and Ella (Hiller) Kleingartner at their rural Fredonia home. She was raised in the Fredonia area and attended schools in Fredonia and Kulm, graduating from Kulm High School in 1950. Adella attended Valley City State Teachers College and obtained a certificate enabling her to teach in country schools. She taught three years at Kulm area country schools. Adella married Harold Kjos on December 20, 1953, at Nazareth Congregational Church in Fredonia, then farmed north of Kulm. Three sons were born to their marriage. In 1967, Harold and Adella moved into Kulm and became agents for Standard Oil Company. Later, they were an independent jobber for Amoco Oil Company until selling the business and retiring in 1985. For one year, they also operated Kulm Standard Service. In addition to assisting with the business, Adella was a Kulm Elementary teacher's assistant. Adella had a lifelong passion for music, and was an accomplished church pianist and organist. Over the years she taught many students how to play the piano. Adella played for countless church services, weddings and funerals. She and Harold were active in the Kulm Congregational Church, sang in the church choir and for a time served as youth leaders. They were also active with the North Dakota Republican Party, of which a highlight was serving as delegates to the 1992 state party convention. Adella was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and treasured in preparing and serving family meals at special holidays throughout the year. She was a charter member of Jolly Homemakers at Kulm. She enjoyed listening to Rush Limbaugh, watching Fox News, Saturday evening televised gospel and Statler Brothers shows, and Sunday evening's Northstar Showcase with calling in a special request. In 1999, Adella and Harold moved to Jamestown and became members of St. Paul Methodist Church. Adella continued her music interests, including playing for a church quartet.
Adella died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. She was 84 years old.
Adella is survived by her sons, Tim of Kulm, ND, Gary of Jamestown, ND and Rich of Eden Prairie, MN; granddaughter Sara Kjos of Eden Prairie, MN; sister Judy (Mel) Schmitz of Fargo, ND and numerous nephews and nieces.
