Merlin P. Nagel

Merlin P. Nagel, 74, passed away at home on Jan. 22, 2018.

Merle was born on March 26, 1943 to Phillip and Dorothy (Kopp) Nagel in Flasher, ND. While growing up, he farmed with his dad and various others, later moving to Buchanan, ND, where he graduated from high school in 1961. He then went on to serve our country in the US Navy for the next 22 years. He served on two carriers, USS Kitty Hawk and USS Corral Sea.

Merle was stationed in Florida, Tennessee, Whidbey Island, Wa., Virginia Beach, and San Diego, where he retired from service in 1983. He then went on to the insurance business.

Merle met and married his childhood sweetheart, June Lawrence from Jamestown, ND. From this union they had three children, daughters Lisa Guasti, Lori Craven (Dave) one son David (Leslie) all of San Diego.

Merle is survived by his wife, children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandson, who was the apple of Merle's eye. He is also survived by one brother, Alvin (Horace, ND); three sisters, Pat (Don) Lehman, Rogene (Ken) Veil, and Roxanne (Charles) Pett. All of Minnesota.

Merle is preceded in death by both his grandparents and his mother and father.

The memorial service was held on Feb. 23, 2018, at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
