Bravo to Red Kettle Campaign donors
The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos and a buffalo chip this week:
► Bravo to the Salvation Army surpassing its Red Kettle Campaign goal and the donors who made it happen. The Salvation Army raised $145,700 in its annual fundraiser that helps it provide services and fund operations for the coming year. The goal was $140,000 and this was the first time the goal was reached in the last three years.
► Bravo to Fargo Cass Public Health for its plan to launch a gleaning program this year. The program will use volunteers in the summer to seek unharvested produce from some farms in Cass County to donate to area charities. Gleaning reduces food waste and provides fresh produce to those who might not be able to afford it, according to Kim Lipetzky, a nutritionist who is overseeing the new program.
► Buffalo chip to the return of bitter cold this weekend. The National Weather Service expects wind chill warnings to be issued and subzero highs today, along with cold early next week. Temperatures are expected to be about 20 degrees lower than normal, the NWS says.
► Bravo to the North Dakota State University Bison for its sixth national FCS championship in seven years. The Bison defeated James Madison 17-13 on Saturday, Jan. 6, in Frisco, Texas.
