Jimmies remain unbeaten

Kristin Breaux

The University of Jamestown and Central Methodist entered Monday's soccer match in Fayetteville, Mo., undefeated. After 110-plus minutes in 92-degree heat, both teams left the same way.

The Eagles (3-0-1) scored in the first half and the Jimmies (4-0-1) equalized in the second in a 1-all draw.

"It would've been nice to come away with a win there in overtime, but they're a good team," UJ coach Nick Becker said. "They won 13 games last year and play in a good conference."

Freshman Kristin Breaux squared matters at 1-all in the 54th minute. Juliet Ramirez was credited with an assist. Becker said there could've been more, however.

"We had three really good chances—that I'd call gimmes—that if we make the right decision we would've had three more," Becker said. "Hopefully we'll learn from that and finish those in the future."

Lauren Sayler had five saves in goal for the Jimmies, who have outscored their first five opponents by the combined score of 12-4.

"I think it's given us a good picture of where we're at," Becker said.

The Jimmies have a challenging weekend ahead against the No. 4 (Benedictine College) and No. 17 (Hastings) teams in the NAIA. Both games will be played in Hastings, Neb.

"We'll get home about 4 a.m. (Tuesday) then flip around and be on the road again Friday morning," Becker said.
