Peterson, Jays top Bravettes

Courtney Peterson can do more in an evening than simply lead Jamestown High School in kills.

The 5-foot-10 junior middle hitter paced a solid Blue Jay effort at the service line Tuesday in Belcourt. Peterson racked up nine of the Jays' 19 ace serves in a 3-0 sweep of Turtle Mountain Community High School.

"That's what we want to do," Blue Jay coach Sara Hegerle said. "We want to out-serve and out-pass teams, and we did that tonight.

"We really served tough."

The Blue Jays won by set scores of 25-4, 25-8 and 25-11. Peterson and senior outside hitter Jordan Paulson each finished with a match-high nine kills.

Senior libero Hannah Schiele ended the night with five aces. Megan Gaffaney turned up 24 assists.

The Bravettes dropped to 0-6 overall, but Hegerle—the 2016 Class A coach of the year—said she liked what she saw out of Turtle Mountain and coach Cindy Keplin.

"Turtle Mountain has got some good athletes," Hegerle said. "I really like their coach. She's trying hard to get those girls moving in the right direction."

The Blue Jays (15-1, 4-0 West Region) host Bismarck St. Mary's on Tuesday.
