VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Jays fall to Patriots

The Blue Jay volleyball team suffered its first conference loss of the season Tuesday in Bismarck.

Jamestown fell 3-2 to Bismarck Century after leading the match 2-1. The Blue Jays left Bismarck still leading the West Region standings, but the loss to the No. 2 team in the conference stung.

"We had plenty of opportunities to win the match, we just had a couple of untimely, unfortunate errors," Jamestown coach Sara Hegerle said. "Just some flukey plays that we normally don't have happen that cost us some points."

The Jays won the second and third sets 25-19 and 25-23, before falling 25-21 in the fourth frame. Jamestown battled back from a 7-3 deficit in the fifth, but ultimately lost the set and the match 17-15.

Jamestown (25-4, 9-1 West Region) lost its first two in-state matches last Friday and Saturday at the Fargo Scheels Tournament. Jamestown placed fifth in the tourney.

Century improved to 22-8 overall and 9-1 in the West. The Blue Jays travel to Mandan Oct. 17.

"It'll be interesting to see how our kids will react. This past weekend I thought we lost some of our spirit," Hegerle said. "We have to fight for points and when we stop having that competitive edge in our spirit it's not fun.

"We had our mojo back (tonight), and it honestly could have went either way. It's not over."
